The NHS Health Check is for adults in England between the ages of 40 and 74. It will give you and your GP a clearer picture of your health, and help you take action to reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and kidney disease.
That may mean lifestyle changes such as eating a healthier diet, cutting down on alcohol, or increasing the amount of physical activity that you do.
If you're eligible for an NHS Health Check, you’ll be invited for a check once every five years.
Together, these four conditions are the largest cause of death in the UK. Each affect the body in different ways, but all four diseases are linked by a common set of risk factors and having one can increase your risk of developing another.
If you’re registered with a GP, you may be invited for the check by letter, or you may be offered the check when you're at your GP or local pharmacy for another reason. If you’re not registered with a GP, it's a good idea to register now. Use our local health services search to find a suitable GP.
If you’re concerned about your health, don't wait until your NHS Health Check to do something about it. Go to your GP as you would normally.
