A review of health services in South West London

The challenge for the NHS is great over the coming years – we need to become more efficient whilst improving the care we provide. Our ageing population means increased pressure on the NHS so we need to look at how the NHS keeps up with the growing demand.

Local doctors, nurses and therapists are coming together with patients and their representatives to review health services in South West London. This review is called Better Services Better Value.

Doctors, from hospitals and general practices, alongside patient representatives, are leading six clinical working groups to look at the following areas:

1. Planned care
2. Urgent, unscheduled and emergency care
3. Maternity and newborn care
4. Children’s services
5. Long-term conditions
6. End of life care

As well as health professionals looking at these areas in depth, we have also attended over 100 meetings to listen to and involve partners, patients and their representatives.

This is an ongoing discussion and no decision has been made yet - get involved! We are continuously surveying the public to find out what matters to you so that we can put forward proposals for our services in south west London. We will consult the public on these proposals in 2012

Better Services Better Value review publishes final clinical reports:

Recommendations for future models of care for health services in south west London are set out in a series of clinical reports that have now been published by the Better Services Better Value review. This follows the publication of the reports in draft in December 2011.

The reports, drawn up by teams of local doctors, nurses and other health professionals, build on the case for change by setting out in detail the challenges facing local health services.

They have been influenced by local people, patient groups and stakeholders, who have been involved in the review from the beginning. The six reports cover urgent and emergency care, maternity, children’s services, long term conditions, planned care and end of life care.

Five of the six reports are now published. The report on Children's Services will be published in May.
